“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” — Isaiah 9:6
I love these words of prophesy from Isaiah, and I can’t help but sing them whenever I read them. Handel set them to music so wonderfully, and I can hear the powerful chorus, accenting each syllable. “Won-der-ful Coun-se-lor… Prince of Peace!”
What’s in the manger today? Peace. Powerful Peace.
Peace that comes from one who is, as Isaiah said, Mighty and Everlasting. This is not the wimpy peace of a fresh snowfall, nor the peace of a silent night, but a Peace that nearly defies description. Our living, reigning Prince gives us the gift of earth-shaking, ground-breaking, awe-awakening Peace that rides on the back of victory over death and earthly sorrows to tame our fearful hearts, no matter the circumstances.
Powerful Peace is Perfect Peace! Thank you Jesus!
